We are the Nordic School

The Nordic School was registered in 1970 under the Swedish School Society after an agreement between the Governments of Tanzania and Sweden.
The Nordic Primary school was originally located above the Morogoro Stores (off Chole Rd). In the 1970s, the school administered Nordic children from preschool up to the 9th grade. The number of children grew drastically, and the premises became too small.
In 1978, the Ministry of Lands offered the Nordic School the vacant plot at the corner of Chole Rd and Ruvu Rd. The school commissioned a Swedish architect, Inger Thede and a Danish architect Niels Hansen, Afritimu (T) Ltd, to do the actual design job using the standard drawings from Ministry of Education, Project Planning Section. The school accommodated a preschool (Förskola/barnhage) as well as grades 1 to 9 and rooms for the children to stay in after school hours. Sports facilities were established including a tennis court, football field, and later a swimming pool.

Nordic library was also made available for the children and the adults, and a residential house was built on the plot for the Headmaster.
The school was finalized and handed over in 1980-1981. The Hon. Queen Silvia of Sweden officially inaugurated the new School site together with the Tanzanian School Minister.

Today, the Nordic School offers Preschool and After School. The school is still a vibrant place offering educational opportunities based on Nordic pedagogical principles.
